BUKHAY Livestock-Based Farming Systems Development Project

Bukhay Livestock-Based Project is an integrated farming system for a 0.36-hectare farm. This was conceptualized to convince farmers still practicing the monocrop farming to diversify their farms to increase income. The major components of the system are dairy cattle and swine breeding. Other components include hog fattening, vegetables, fruit crops, biogas and vermicomposting.

BUKHAY Vermiculture-Based Farming System Development Project

This is a 0.32-hectare integrated farming system, which was developed to showcase one of the composting technologies CRTD promotes to its clients --Vermicomposting. This project is being implemented to ensure availability of organic fertilizers for rice, vegetables, ornamentals and fruit crop projects of CRTD. Aside from compost as organic fertilizer, vermins (worms) are also produced, which are potential source of protein feeds for fish and poultry. It also integrates other projects which includes fruit crops and vegetables.

BUKHAY Aquaculture-Based Farming Systems Development

This project was developed to provide a model for a 0.56-hectare Aquaculture-Based integrated farming system. Also managed by a single farm family, production is concentrated on Tilapia Nursery and Ornamental Fish Culture (Japanese Carp or Koi, Silver Carp and Flower Horn). Integrated into the system are the vegetables, fruitcrops, vermicomposting and hog fattening project.

Tilapia Production and Hatchery

CRTD implements the 1.54-hectare Tilapia Production and Hatchery and Fattening Project to assure the availability and regular supply of quality tilapia stocks that can be produced through inland fishery. At present, CRTD produces the following strains of tilapia: Fresh Aquaculture Selected Tilapia (FAST) and the Common Nile Tilapia (CNT).

Lowland Agroforestry Production System

This is a 7,800 sqm. project, which aims to demonstrate appropriate and viable technologies of highly marketable fruit crops (i.e. Durian, Rambutan, Banana, Papaya) to provide additional income to farmers. It will highlight low-cost greenhouse establishment and management and will implement the following technology agenda: row-strip intercropping of annual and perennial crops, organic farming and establishment and maintenance of Multi-Purpose Trees Species (MPTS) as boundary crops and windbrakers.
